چکیده

Considering multiple applications on a system which are executing concurrently, there should be mechanisms and policies which manage the competition for resources between them and resolve the conflicts. In a traditional system, these management activities can be summarized as storage management for saving the required data and I/O management to interact with the outside world. Theoretic foundations of these activities have been fully explored in literature. In view of reconfigurable systems, additional management tasks would be imposed which include FPGA logic area allocation, placement, routing, and network on chip management. This paper presents those management activities. Index Terms — Operating systems, Reconfigurable architectures, Resource management, Scheduling

Performance Simulation of Runtime Reconfigurable Software Architectures

Resource efficient computing of software systems is increasing in importance in software development. While resource efficiency is mainly an internal quality attribute, the system performance is an external quality attribute, visible to system users. In order to provide an adequate system performance, i. e., assure short response times to user requests, the necessary hardware capacity is common...

Dynamic resource management on distributed systems using reconfigurable applications

Efficient management of distributed resources, under conditions of unpredictable and varying workload, requires enforcement of dynamic resource management policies. Execution of such policies requires a relatively fine grain control over the resources allocated to jobs in the system. Although this is a difficult task using conventional job management and program execution models, reconfigurable...

COSMOS : A System - Level Modelling and Simulation Framework for Coprocessor - Coupled

Dynamically reconfigurable systems demand complicated run-time management. Due to resource constraints and reconfiguration latencies, efficient reconfiguration strategies that can reduce the overhead cost of dynamic reconfiguration need to be studied. In this paper, we i) propose a reconfigurable task model which extends the classical real-time task model to support the additional states and la...

Flexible resource management and its effect on project cost and duration

In practice, most projects result in cost overruns and schedule slippage due to poor resource management. This paper presents an approach that aims at reducing project duration and costs by empowering project managers to assess different scenarios. The proposed approach addresses combinatorial modes for tasks, multi-skilled resources, and multiple calendars for resources. A case study reported ...

Approach for production planning in reconfigurable manufacturing systems

To stay competitive and to fulfill the changing market needs, manufacturing companies have to adapt their manufacturing systems in frequent and short intervals. Hence, changeable and reconfigurable manufacturing systems (RMS) are proposed and discussed in a multitude of research publications. While production planning becomes increasingly complex in this context, it has to be reliable and quick...
